In response to concerns that a wave of doctors may leave Israel in protest at the government's plan to weaken the judiciary and create a crisis in the health system, the director general of the Israeli Ministry of Health and senior officials in the health system met urgently with representatives of the medical union.
Approximately 500 doctors (of various specialities) are planning to leave Israel, according to estimations presented by the officials during the meeting, "which may put Israel in the face of a very serious health crisis," according to what was published by the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, "Kan 11".
Health system officials stressed that "even if the number of departing doctors does not exceed 300, it is expected that the crisis will be complex and difficult," given that "talking about doctors of rare specialties does not include a large number of specialists."
