The spokesperson for Gaza Municipality, Asim Al-Nabeeh, stated that the Israeli occupation continues to prevent municipal teams from transporting waste to the main landfill east of Gaza City.

Al-Nabeeh explained that "Gaza City is suffering from the accumulation of more than 175,000 tons of waste." He added, "We are forced to collect waste in random and unhealthy dumps within city neighborhoods," pointing out that displaced people are now living next to these waste sites, posing a serious health disaster that threatens their lives.

He called for the entry of heavy machinery to collect and transport waste away from shelters and displacement areas.

Since October 2023, the occupation has prevented Gaza Municipality teams from reaching the main landfill in the Juhor al-Dik area near the eastern border, causing waste to accumulate inside the city, according to previous municipal reports. The destruction of waste collection vehicles and the lack of fuel necessary to operate the remaining ones have further exacerbated this crisis
