Attorney Ghida Qasem described the situation of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya in Israeli prisons as a "continuous journey of torment."

In her recent visit to Dr. Abu Safiya, Attorney Qasem noticed clear signs of torture on his body, including injuries to his eye and rib cage, as well as fractures in several areas of his body.

She confirmed that the occupation is trying to force him to confess to fabricated charges, such as belonging to a terrorist organization or conducting surgeries for fighters, despite his assertion that he is a pediatrician and does not enter operating rooms. She pointed out that Dr. Abu Safiya’s physical and mental health is deteriorating significantly.

In January, Amnesty International called for his release, emphasizing that it had "gathered testimonies about the horrific reality inside Israeli prisons and detention centers, where Palestinian detainees, including healthcare workers, face systematic torture and other forms of abuse." It is worth noting that Dr. Abu Safiya has been detained by the occupation since December 27, 2024, and suffers from chronic high blood pressure and heart muscle enlargement. He has not been referred to a specialist doctor nor provided with treatment, despite his requests to the prison authorities.
