The head of Israel’s Shin Bet security service, Ronen Bar, has accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of attempting to exploit the agency's capabilities for personal and political purposes.
Bar stated that Netanyahu tried to use Shin Bet’s intelligence tools to spy on organizers of protests against judicial reforms and the war, saying: “He attempted to use Shin Bet for personal and partisan goals, and asked me to obey him personally rather than the Supreme Court. He also tried to force me to submit a report claiming he was unable to appear before the court due to the war.”
Bar further accused Netanyahu of compromising Israeli security in favor of Qatar through his office staff, who allegedly provided propaganda services to Qatar, deliberately sabotaged hostage deal negotiations, and harmed Israel’s relations with Egypt.
Responding to Netanyahu’s accusations that Bar withheld information on the night of October 7, Bar clarified that he had informed Netanyahu’s military secretary approximately one hour before the attack that Hamas might launch a limited operation.
Bar concluded by stating that he will soon announce the date of his resignation from his position.
