According to the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, efforts to reach an agreement between the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian resistance in Gaza are progressing very slowly. This comes amid political and military stagnation, conflicting Israeli positions, and worsening humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
The paper added that an Israeli delegation is expected to visit Doha or Cairo in the coming days to join the negotiations, as the gaps between the parties remain wide. Qatari and Egyptian mediators continue their efforts to bridge these differences.
High-level sources told Israel’s Kan channel that the Israeli government still has reservations about four key points—details of which have not been disclosed.
Meanwhile, Hamas is preparing to present a comprehensive initiative during a scheduled meeting in Cairo. The proposal includes five key points, most notably a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal that would see the release of all Israeli captives in return for an agreed-upon number of Palestinian prisoners. It also calls for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, the lifting of the blockade, and the initiation of reconstruction efforts.
However, the Israeli government insists on continuing the war and destroying Hamas, rejecting any resolution that might allow the group to regain any of its strength. This stance remains a point of contention within Israeli political circles.
