The Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Defense reported that the Israeli Committee Against Torture acknowledged the detention of 2,790 Palestinian prisoners from the Gaza Strip. However, the fate of 144 detainees remains unknown, amid a lack of transparency, absence of legal guarantees, and no international oversight over their detention conditions — raising serious concerns about enforced disappearances and torture.
Mohammad Shaaban, head of the Palestinian Center for Prisoners’ Defense, stated:
“We continue to receive testimonies and reports indicating that Palestinian prisoners — especially from Gaza — are subjected to horrific physical and psychological torture, isolation from the outside world, and denial of medical care.”
Shaaban confirmed that the center has begun legal and human rights actions, in collaboration with international organizations, to raise the issue of Gaza detainees on the global stage.
