The Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection, Idit Silman, has called on the Israeli Police Commissioner, Dani Levi, to take immediate steps to enforce the law against what she described as "serious violations in the use of loudspeakers in mosques," focusing on three specific mosques in Jerusalem, Jaffa, and Lod.

In a letter to the Israeli police, Silman stated that the ministry had received "repeated complaints regarding noise caused by the use of loudspeakers in the three mosques," without any "concrete steps being taken to eliminate this phenomenon," as she put it.

She also demanded the imposition of fines on violators and the immediate issuance of orders to remove loudspeakers from mosques that exceed the legally permitted noise limits.

In April of last year, the so-called Israeli Minister of National Security, the far-right Itamar Ben-Gvir, issued directives to police leadership to tighten measures against the use of call-to-prayer loudspeakers in mosques within the occupied territories.
