The Israeli newspaper Haaretz revealed that the scale of destruction in the Gaza Strip exceeds previous estimates, with around 70% of buildings now unfit for habitation.
The newspaper explained that the rate of building destruction has reached 89% in Rafah in the south of the Strip, 84% in the north, while 78% of the buildings in Gaza City have been completely or partially destroyed.
Haaretz also revealed that the demolition is not carried out solely by military forces, but also by private Israeli contractors operating under the supervision of combat units in the Israeli army, receiving payments of about 5,000 shekels (approximately $1,500) for each building they demolish.
The newspaper added that these contractors exert pressure on field commanders in the army to expand the scope of destruction operations in the Palestinian territory.
