Warning of Possible Communications Blackout in Gaza

The Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor warned of an imminent collapse of telecommunications and internet networks in Gaza as a result of Israeli bombardment of residential towers.

The Monitor stated that targeting high-rise buildings in Gaza poses a direct threat to the telecommunications and internet sector, as local companies install their vital technical equipment on the rooftops of these buildings.

It stressed that through the destruction of these towers, Israel seeks to achieve multiple objectives, most notably deepening its policy of urban erasure, forcing residents into displacement, and destroying what remains of the telecommunications and internet infrastructure.

The Monitor added that destroying telecommunications infrastructure aims to disrupt humanitarian response efforts and impose a complete blackout on civilians, spreading confusion and uncertainty that pressures them into forced displacement.
