The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that blood banks in the Strip’s hospitals are suffering from a “severe and critical shortage” of blood units and their components, amid the increasing number of serious injuries resulting from the ongoing Israeli aggression.
In a press statement, the ministry said the daily need for blood units and their components exceeds 350 units, noting that the nature of the critical injuries arriving at hospitals requires additional supplies to save lives. It added that sources for replenishing blood stocks, including community donation campaigns, have significantly declined due to the spread of famine and malnutrition.
The ministry issued an urgent appeal to all concerned parties to help reinforce blood unit stocks and their components in hospitals, warning of the grave consequences of this shortage on the lives of the wounded.
