The head of the Government Media Office in Gaza, Ismail Al-Thawabta, stated that since the start of the ground offensive on Gaza City on August 11, 2025, the occupation army has blown up and demolished more than 1,700 towers and multi-story residential buildings in their entirety.

He pointed out that the towers and apartment blocks targeted by the occupation contained more than 10,000 housing units, home to over 50,000 residents. Thousands of other houses and tents sheltering more than 52,000 displaced people were also destroyed, leaving more than 100,000 citizens homeless. In addition, more than 350,000 people have been displaced from the eastern neighborhoods of Gaza City.

Al-Thawabta stressed that the occupation’s targeting of well-known residential towers and apartment blocks, which have existed for many years, exposes the falsity of its narrative that claims a security threat. He added that these towers contained only families, children, and women, and were licensed civilian housing—some of them considered prominent urban landmarks of the city.
