Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan called for abolishing or limiting the veto power in the UN Security Council, imposing tangible sanctions on Israel, and preparing to provide long-term support for an independent State of Palestine.
This came in a speech Hasan delivered before the 80th session of the UN General Assembly at the organization’s headquarters in New York, in which he addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip.
Regarding the celebration of the UN’s 80th anniversary, Hasan questioned the commemoration, asking: “Should we congratulate ourselves for failing to end the occupation of Palestine?”
He reaffirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, noting that backing the “two-state solution” to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict alone is not sufficient.
