UNICEF spokesperson James Elder expressed his astonishment at the world’s inaction despite the killing of 20,000 children in the Gaza Strip by the Israeli occupation, including 1,000 infants.

Elder stated that one-third of all births in Gaza are premature, amid a severe shortage of medical equipment and neonatal care facilities. He emphasized that the ban on the entry of food supplies and incubators is worsening the situation for children and newborns.

He added that the occupation demands Gaza City residents move south, yet people do not know where to go, and displacement areas are unsafe. He noted that repeated and continuous displacement only deepens trauma and psychological distress among children.

Elder affirmed that Gaza’s recovery depends on the emergence of a new educated generation, stressing that education is the future.
