Palestinian prisoner institutions and human rights organizations have called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to immediately resume visits to Israeli prisons, amid escalating violations against Palestinian detainees.

The group of organizations sent an urgent letter to ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, demanding the immediate resumption of visits to Israeli prisons where Palestinian detainees are held under dangerous conditions, including systematic starvation, deliberate medical neglect, physical and psychological torture, sexual assault and violence, and the deprivation of basic rights. These conditions have led to the death of no fewer than 80 Palestinian detainees while in custody.

The organizations also warned that the occupation continues to withhold the bodies of hundreds of Palestinian detainees from the Gaza Strip, in addition to 88 known detainees whose bodies remain withheld — 77 of whom were killed after the beginning of the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
