Israel’s Channel 13 reported that the National Security Committee in the Israeli Knesset has approved a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners who carried out resistance operations, paving the way for it to be presented to the Knesset for its first reading.
According to Israel’s Channel 7, the Coordinator for Prisoner Affairs in the occupation government, Gal Hirsch, stated that “Prime Minister Netanyahu has given the green light to move forward with the final approval of the law after the recovery of all living captives from the Gaza Strip.” The law was originally proposed by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.
Israeli sources added that the law will first be applied to detainees from the Gaza Strip and surrounding areas who have been classified as “elite fighters” of the Al-Qassam Brigades — the military wing of Hamas — and who have been held in military prisons since then without trial.
