The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said that around 75,000 displaced people are currently living in 100 of its buildings across the Gaza Strip, while tens of thousands more are sheltering around its facilities under dire humanitarian conditions.
UNRWA added that it is waiting for the Israeli authorities to allow the entry of tents currently held at Gaza’s border, to provide shelter for those who lost their homes in the ongoing assault. The agency explained that it has 6,000 aid trucks waiting at the borders—enough to cover the population’s needs for three months—and questioned the reasons behind Israel’s continued refusal to let them in.
It further noted that all humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza are known to the Israeli authorities, stressing there is no justification for forcing them to re-register, as such measures only hinder the delivery of aid and worsen the humanitarian crisis.
According to Hamdan, there are 730,000 displaced people, including more than half a million children.
