Palestinian journalist Wael Al-Dahdouh has been awarded the 2025 Human Rights Defender Prize by Amnesty International during the celebration of International Human Rights Day in Sydney, Australia.
Al-Dahdouh was honored for his courageous coverage of the Israeli war of extermination against the Gaza Strip.
The ceremony also posthumously honored Anas Al-Sharif, a journalist who was awarded Amnesty’s 2024 prize for his outstanding reporting on the same war.
In a video address, Al-Dahdouh said Israel's assassination of Palestinian journalists aims to erase the truth, stressing that press freedom is a right to be seized, not granted. He called for justice, accountability for war crimes, and urged Western media to change its biased and unprofessional approach to the Palestinian cause.ش
