The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned that over 100,000 children and 37,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women in Gaza could suffer from severe malnutrition by April 2026, emphasizing that progress in combating famine in the territory remains "extremely fragile."

Ghebreyesus made the remarks in response to a UN report on the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, which indicated that at least 1.6 million people in Gaza are facing high levels of acute food insecurity until mid-April. He warned that renewed conflict or disruption of aid could push the entire territory toward famine.
