The Israeli left-wing movement Peace Now, which specializes in monitoring settlement activity, said that Israel approved the construction of more than 28,000 new settlement units in the occupied West Bank during 2025—an unprecedented number of units approved in a single year.
The movement added that the council is discussing today plans to build 1,033 housing units across various areas of the West Bank, including the construction of 126 settlement units in the “Sanur” settlement, which had previously been evacuated and has now been re-established by the occupation government.
It stated that this step “represents a return of settlement activity deep into the northern West Bank, in areas with a high Palestinian population density, where there had been no settlement presence before.”
