Flooding of Displaced Persons’ Tents in the Gaza Strip

Hundreds of displaced families’ tents in the Gaza Strip were flooded with rainwater as a severe weather system intensified across the area.

Eyewitnesses reported that roads and displacement camps in the Al-Mawasi areas of Khan Younis and Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip were inundated due to heavy rainfall. Several tents were also blown away by strong winds accompanying the storm.

The rain caused the flooding of displaced people’s blankets and belongings, at a time when they have no alternatives or other shelters available.

Last night, a young girl from the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza died as a result of the extreme cold inside the tents.

Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are currently living in tents and temporary shelters amid a severe shortage of safe shelter supplies. Most tents lack basic safety measures, making them highly vulnerable to fires, especially with the use of primitive means for heating and cooking, in the absence of electricity and amid severe fuel shortages.
