A new fact sheet issued by the Prisoners’ Media Office revealed shocking details about the deaths of 86 detainees from the Gaza Strip in Israeli prisons, who had been arrested since October 2023.

The findings show that torture and ill-treatment were the most prominent causes of death in dozens of cases, alongside deliberate medical neglect, including the denial of treatment to prisoners suffering from serious and chronic illnesses. The report also documents that at least 22 of the martyrs were subjected to enforced disappearance. Additional deaths were recorded in several central prisons and in Israeli hospitals while detainees remained under custody, highlighting the severity of the entire detention system.

The data indicate that the list of martyrs includes civilians, workers, former prisoners, doctors, and paramedics, in addition to young minors, elderly individuals, and some who were arrested while injured or sick or used as “human shields,” in a blatant violation of basic humanitarian and legal standards.
